
The Bedford Life saving Crew, Inc. is a non-profit, all volunteer rescue and first aid organization providing emergency medical service to a 220 square mile area that includes the city of Bedford and portions of Bedford County. We respond to 150-200 emergency calls a month with 2006 ending with a record total of over 2200 calls.
The BLSC, Inc. is certified by the Virginia Department of Emergency Medical Services and we are a member of the Blue Ridge EMS Council. We are lead by a Board of Directors and a staff of officers who, like our emergency medical technicians, are volunteers.
History
The Bedford Life Saving and First Aid Crew, Inc. was formed on July 8, 1943 with a mere 15 members and one Ford truck. We currently have approximately 35 members, 4 fully stocked ambulances, response vehicles, and ancillary equipment.
Our Mission
To reduce death and disability resulting from sudden or serious injury and illness through continuing education, advanced certification, and medical protocols as part of a comprehensive, coordinated statewide emergency medical services (EMS) system, And, to provide other technical assistance and support to enable our Emergency Medical Technicians to provide the highest quality emergency medical care possible to those in need.
